Hi, my name is Emma and I have just started my own pre-school group SingSongStories – a singing and story-based group for children aged 0 – 5. I officially launched the business in January, and have been really enjoying getting to know all the children who have been coming to my sessions.
SingSongStories all began nearly a year ago when I was sat envying my husband, James. I was working long hours (and enduring a 2-hour commute) as a full-time primary school teacher in Leicester. James also had a part-time job, but he spent the rest of his time looking after our two young children, then aged 1 and 3. I really wished that I could have a job that allowed me to spend more time with my children, especially as my eldest was about to start school.
I have always enjoyed taking my two girls to their different pre-school groups; dancing, swimming and playgroups. If only there was a way I could have the best of both worlds…
There was one idea, but it involved giving up the stability of a full-time job. Was I brave enough to take the plunge and have a go at starting my own pre-school group? Fortunately, I have a very supportive husband and some excellent family and friends!
I decided to start SingSongStories because I know how much young children enjoy these sorts of activities, and with over ten years’ experience as an early year’s teacher, I’m well versed in keeping children entertained. I also have extensive knowledge of the early year’s curriculum, so I know how to best help children reach their potential. Plus, I have my own experience as a mum, and plenty of parent friends whose advice I can draw on too.
In the future I hope to expand the business outside of Long Eaton and run sessions in different locations, but in the meantime the best thing about my new career is that I get to eat breakfast and tea with my kids, and take my big girl to and from school!
